It’s Friday, the weekend is practically here, and it’s time to naughty things up a bit. I’m craving Southern comfort food – specifically fried chicken and fluffy, buttery biscuits – and it’s about time I share with you how to make this magic at home. You know, like those Chick-fil-A chicken biscuits that really hit the spot with a hot coffee or cold lemonade. Except, oh, a million times better because these were cooked in the comfort of your own kitchen. With fresh, real ingredients you can trust. A little time and patience. And a whole lotta love!

Craving fried chicken? I got you. This is the most perfect, tender and foolproof fried chicken recipe ever. These crispy chicken tenders come together easily and are sizzled on your stovetop ’til golden. Drizzle those babies with a hot honey and sandwich ’em between two soft, flaky buttermilk biscuits.

Oh, honey! You bet your biscuit you won’t find a better comfort food for cozy days in.

Come on in, and I’ll show you how to cook your best-ever chicken biscuits from scratch. No shortcuts here – just good quality ingredients that make the most outrageously good comfort food!

How Do You Make Hot Honey Chicken Biscuits?

We’ll be making three components to this recipe – the fried chicken tenders, buttermilk biscuits, and a simple hot honey mixture. This is a great recipe for when you have some time to spend in the kitchen, and want to create a truly impressive but comforting dish!

For the Fried Chicken:

  • Fill a large pot with about 2 inches of oil.
  • In a large bowl, mix flour, salt, pepper, garlic powder and paprika. In separate large dish, whisk egg and water. Dredge the chicken in the flour, coating well. Shake off excess flour and dip in the egg, then back in the flour. Set aside.
  • Check oil temperature (around 365-375 degrees F), or drop in a little bit of flour. If it sizzles, add chicken (2-4 pieces at a time) and fry until golden brown – about 8 to 10 minutes, or so. Cook remaining chicken in batches.
  • Transfer to a paper towel lined plate. Set aside.

For the Biscuits:

  • Preheat oven to 450 degrees F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
  • In a large bowl, combine flour, baking powder, salt and baking soda. Cut butter into small cubes, or use a box grater to shred (this makes it SO easy!) Work butter into the dry ingredients until it resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in buttermilk using a rubber spatula, until a soft dough forms.
  • Scoop the dough onto a lightly floured surface and gently work it together with your hands. Pat the dough into a rectangle and fold it in thirds. Turn the dough, gather any crumbs, and flatten back into a rectangle. Repeat this process two more times.
  • Using a floured 2.5-inch biscuit cutter, cut out the biscuits. Continue to gather any scrap pieces of dough, patting it back down to 1/2-inch thickness, and cutting it until you have 10-12 biscuits.
  • Bake for 15-17 minutes, or until lightly golden brown. Remove from the oven and brush with melted butter.

For the Hot Honey:

  • Add honey and pepper flakes to a small saucepan. Simmer over medium heat. Remove from heat. Stir in apple cider vinegar.
  • Cool to room temperature and use immediately by drizzling over your fried chicken. Or, transfer to a glass container and refrigerate until ready to use.

To assemble:

  • Split biscuits in half. Place a fried chicken piece on top of each half. Drizzle with hot honey. Serve with pickle slices, if desired.

Just like you would get at any fancy brunch restaurant – except, you made these at home for under $20, and you get to wear your pajamas while you eat them.

Win-win, right?

This flavor bomb of a biscuit sandwich is based on two of my most popular recipes, Crispy Fried Chicken Tenders and Best-Ever Buttermilk Biscuits. Super fun to make and delicious on their own, but we’re not here to do the bare minimum, are we?

I didn’t think so.

So, we’re tossing them together, drowning it all in a dang-good-‘n-spicy honey, and serving them up hot with tangy pickles. Add a lemonade on the side, and we’re talking total Southern comfort. Easy and elegant, with extra napkins on the side. We’re going to need ’em.

Time to roll up our sleeves and dig in!

I hope you go for seconds of these buttery, made-with-love chicken biscuits! And enjoy them with your family and friends for a cozy weeknight dinner, game day, or anytime you feel like creating some real comfort food in your home kitchen.

We love love love this recipe! Made it at least 3 times in the last 2 months. How does your honey look like that? I don’t see any crushed red pepper flakes in your honey. Do you use something else since it has a reddish color to it?
